Circular ReBoundary is a free online learning resource that helps businesses and organisations adopt circular economy practices effectively. Developed by CMCC (Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change) in close partnership with T6 Ecosystem and other research partners of the CircEUlar project, this tool addresses a common challenge: ensuring that well-intentioned sustainability efforts and initiatives deliver the projected environmental benefits.
Many organisations want to "go circular" – reducing waste, reusing materials, and designing products for longevity. Circular ReBoundary integrates comprehensive consumer and employee survey insights, and stakeholder workshop findings to provide real-world perspectives on the adoption of circular practices, with the aim of supporting organisations to implement their own circular actions more effectively.
However, these efforts can still at times lead to unexpected consequences called "rebound effects." For example, when a company makes a product more efficient, people might use it more, potentially cancelling the environmental gains. Circular ReBoundary helps users learn about the different rebound mechanisms and prevent these unintended consequences.
Circular ReBoundary particularly focuses on avoiding rebound effects while implementing circular practices. This learning journey references high-quality resources on circular economy approaches and displays the most relevant and recent findings from the CircEUlar project. The platform combines:
The tool offers a flexible "learning journey" where users can explore:
Circular ReBoundary is designed for sustainability professionals, managers, and anyone responsible for or interested in implementing environmental initiatives in their organisation – whether you're in a dedicated sustainability role or working in areas like R&D, operations, or sales.
This tool was developed as part of CircEUlar, a four-year European research project that creates new ways to analyse circular economy impacts and their connection to climate goals. The project's official documentation details the development process and research behind Circular ReBoundary.
